SELF BRAKING SHOPPING CART
Inventor: Rudy E. Kieselat, Sr.

Product Description
The Self Braking Shopping Cart is a set of specially designed shopping carts boasting integrated brakes.
Design Features
• The Self Braking Shopping Cart was invented by Mr. Rudy E. Kieselat with convenience in mind. The Self Braking Shopping Cart is a set of specially designed brakes to be easily applied to existing shopping cart rear wheel assemblies, or included as an upgrade feature on newly manufactured shopping carts. The Self Braking Shopping Cart would be similar in appearance and function to a traditional shopping cart and as such would be manufactured primarily of drawn wire material and would feature durable metal and plastic components. The most notable aspect of the Self Braking Shopping Cart is found in the integrated braking mechanism. Designed to be activated each time the user take their hands off the cart’s handle, the Self Braking Shopping Cart would be comprised of a single, spring loaded braking mechanism, to be applied to both rear wheels and connected to the unit handles via an adjustable support rod which rests flush against the rear of the shopping cart basket. The handle itself would be similar in design and function to traditional shopping cart handles and could have an ergonomic plastic or rubber hand grip, facilitating comfort during use. The handle would be hinge connected to the vertical support rod, pressing down on the front of the brake assembly and thus lifting the brake pad off the rear wheels each time the user gripped the handle and releasing the brake back onto the wheels in order to stop the wheels as the user lifts their hands off the cart. A release mechanism would also be included and would be positioned on the front of the assembly, on the underside of the basket, for user in overriding the braking mechanism. In case of an accessory item to be applied to an existing shopping cart, these brakes would be configured to be easily snap fitted or bolted to the cart’s wheels, while the Self Braking Shopping Cart utilized on new shopping carts would be incorporated into the design of the rear wheel assemblies.
Advantages & Benefits
• The Self Braking Shopping Cart would effectively prevent a parked shopping cart from rolling away during use. Durable, easily activated brakes which would secure the shopping cart in a stationary position, use of the Self Braking Shopping Cart would enable consumers to unload groceries from their cart into their vehicle, in a safe and simple manner. Eliminating the frustrating scenario of watching helplessly as a cart, loaded with groceries, rolls away from one’s parked car and worse, not being able to stop that cart simply because one’s arms are full of groceries, use of the Self Braking Shopping Cart could prove an invaluable commodity to any busy shopper. Further, because use of the Self Braking Shopping Cart would prevent the car from rolling, use of this product would prevent the dents, scratches and body damage to parked vehicles that results from runaway carts.
